About Odd Sodds

Who are we?

We are Odd Sodds, also known as Sean and Emily. We are a couple based in rural Norfolk, United Kingdom, who started a hobby together during the lockdowns of 2021.

We both work full-time jobs and balance Odd Sodds around our busy work and home lives: Emily works as a nursery practitioner and Sean as a shift manager. It all started with just one idea, one which had nothing to do with aromatherapy! Originally, and where we got our name from, we were going to create and sell random crafts ranging from canvas painting, to painted rocks, even completed diamond paintings. We even had a motto to run with:

‘Just a pair of Odd Sodds making bits and bobs for all your knick knack needs.’

After a lot of brainstorming, we found something we both fell in love with. Sure enough we took the plunge with wax melts - but realised we knew absolutely nothing, other than that they smell nice! Months of research went into the wax melts that would become our humble starting point. After choosing Etsy as our site of commerce, we opened shop in 2021.

In late February, we put our first products up for sale. The now classic 'Original Range' was born and offered out to the world. The realisation that our products could be in someone else’s home was, and still is, very surreal. As the year went on, we noticed a craft fair advertised near us and, in September of 2021, we decided to give it a shot. The few weeks building up to the fair in September were very exciting. We collected some business tips and made up loads of stock. We made our own bunting and had our own business cards developed. We had brought our humble hobby stall to our local church fete, and it felt incredible.

I can’t quite explain the nerves and excitement we both felt standing there. In our newly bought bum-bags and business t-shirts, fresh out the packets, we stood and waited. Slowly, people came to us and started asking about our stock, we started. getting compliments on the smells from the table or across the venue. These are still so special and never fail to give us an intense drive to work harder and better.

From that day we knew: This was the start of something we love, and that the local people loved too. Slowly we researched and crafted new items together, filling many books with ideas as we went. We had some issues; adapted some of our existing items based on feedback, re-tested them and finally re-marketed them. We bought the appropriate licensing and booked onto more and more craft fairs. Soon after, we invested in new branded t-shirts & hoodies, new tables, chairs and even a gazebo to help us along our journey. Our little Odd Sodds started to get recognised locally and some customers were waiting for the next craft to see us, often stopping to ask us how it was going.

So that takes us up to now. Feel free to take a look around, make yourself at home and don't hesitate to contact us. We appreciate all your support. Thank you.

All the best, Odd Sodds.
